First of all, let me apologize for not updating more after I promised that I would! I have been so busy with starting the new job and moving into the new place, plus I have not had an Internet connection and work won't let my laptop on their network and has blocked the Blogger site! Yes, they are good enough to filter to ensure that our eyes don't wander onto something unpleasant.
I spent the Easter weekend painting the new apartment--it was pink, now it's all white, pictures to come when I get my act together and find my camera in these boxes! Still it was the easiest move I've ever made, since I have no funiture and almost everything I own had to come over with my from Canada in the first place. So far I am loving it, especially having my own place and being the absolute ruler over everything within it. Put the seat down! Why? Because I have decreed it! Mwahahaha!
All it needs now is broadband and a couple of trips to Ikea...

I finally started my new job on Monday, after waiting for a while to get my work permit. Unfortunately I'm still waiting for my bike to be delivered, but other than that all is well. Everyone at Kohler Mira is really friendly and enthusiastic, even with many of them having been there for twenty or thirty years!
To get to work I take the Virgin train, which is quick and quite fancy. It goes through some serious countryside, and watching the green rolling fields, woods and sheep and little lambs bouncing along beside the train is something else--it's like a little vacation twice a day.
I also have gotten a new apartment (although I haven't moved in yet) that's right next to the station in downtown Birmingham. It's in Stephenson Tower, which is the 19th tallest building in B'ham, doncha know. It's a bit slummy (former council tower, if you are familiar with such things) and a bit noisy, but it's dirt cheap, it's across the street from everything, and I look forward to surveying the city while barbequeing on my balcony. Pictures to follow!
